THE 2010 CBC & ADA ACCESSIBILITY PRIMER – BASIC REQUIREMENTS, COMMON ERRORS & OMISSIONS AND BEST PRACTICES (9/9)

  • Course Description: This five hour course will be broken into five segments focusing on spatial and functional accessibility requirements from the 2010 California Building Code (CBC) and 2010 Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). Basic requirements, common errors and omissions, as well as best practices will be explored in the context of site accessibility, accessibility of entrances, exits and paths of travel, building facilities, and accessibility approaches for existing buildings. The five segments will be: (I) Site Accessibility; (II) Accessibility of Parking Facilities; (III) Accessibility for Entrances, Exits and Paths of Travel; (IV) Accessibility of Sanitary Facilities; (V) Accessibility Approaches for Existing Buildings.
  • Instructor: Nate Wittasek, PE, LEED AP, Arup - Nate Wittasek of ARUP has engaged in accessibility codes consulting for over a decade. Using a foundation based on his in-depth understanding of fire and life safety requirements from the building code, Nate has sought to develop a holistic approach to codes consulting, wherein themes associated with life safety and accessibility are interwoven. Combining real-life examples and graphical depictions to enhance understanding, Nate brings over 15 years of current practical experience to the classroom. Nate is an instructor at the UCLA Extension, and an adjunct at the College of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona, where he has taught accessibility for over five years.
